The information below concerns the Home Health Care
service offered by Aetna Insurance.
The following message was sent by a WLSU member concerning a call that was received.
"It is not a scam but.... The company is Signify. They are owned or contracted by Aetna. They offer a free home nurse visit. In some cases they offer $50.00. We got that call for my husband. The man became irritated that I took the phone and said no thank you. He talked over me and I said absolutely no, take me off your list.
I contacted Aetna customer service and they did a 3 way call with Signify to remove me from the call list. Apparently Medicare Advantage Insurers make big bucks by offering this service. It is their gravy money maker since Medicare allows it and pays it. That is probably a reason they could give the retirement groups cheaper premiums. Anyway, you do not have to submit to this harassment and they cannot require you to have someone come into your home if you do not want it. I was so upset after the call because they make it seem as if it is a requirement instead of an option. BTW the Aetna customer service agent seemed to totally understand and was kind about this. I am not the first person to complain. Thank you for posting this but wanted to clarify my findings. I thought it was Ciga too but when I asked the agent how to spell the name of the company it was Signify. And yes the phone number is an Aetna one.
Signify Home Health was bought by CVS who I believe is the parent company of Aetna currently. That is the connection to our insurer. Also when they said that they don't do business with Cigna, that is correct. They DO do business with Signify. They should have clarified this because that is most likely who called our member. They own Signify and its rude callers. All about the money."
WLSU members: You may recall that United Health care used to make the same types of calls. You would decline if you wanted to stay with your doctors. There are individuals that may be housebound or would like to have this type of service.
The service is optional, and you can always say NO.
Here is some additional information found on Youtube:
Taking care of your health doesn't only happen in your doctor's office. It can take place in your home, too. During an in-person or virtual Aetna Medicare Healthy Home Visit, a nurse practitioner or doctor performs a checkup and medication review, searches for safety hazards around the home.
They also provide resources for emotional support, healthy eating and more. A Healthy Home Visit is just one benefit offered to Aetna Medicare members.

We hope this clarifies the situation. Your WLSU board has been trying to obtain a speaker from CMS or Aetna to attend a membership meeting and address issues you may have; however, all of our efforts have ben stone-walled.
